On the first day, we were able to go to The Studio, where we met the founder, Jen Lewin, and Charles Lindgren. This was a great transition from all of the other co-working spaces that we’ve seen, which were all tech-focused. This one was all “artist-oriented.” Jen Lewin wanted to collaborate and bring people together. Within the space, there are: artists, graphic designers, engineers, architects, etc. The space works at 100% capacity because of the great environment that is formed because of all the creativity. There is also a really cool trailer turned conference room in the main area of the facility!
A few days later, we were able to go to National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and we climbed the trail in the mountains. On our way back, we met John Balck from Victor & Spoils. From that, we met with him on Monday and learned that he is a WMU ALUM!! Three years ago he started at V&S and he had a lot of passion around everyone needing to have a stand for something, they must have a story. In order to create “collisions within their workplace, the employees at V&S must change their seating every 6 months.
The last day we were in Boulder, we went to the Boulder Open Coffee Club in Boomtown. The first thing they did was applaud us (as a tradition) because we are undergraduate students who were able to make it out of bed before 8am!! After that, they proceeded to talk about new technology and innovation in the community, such as: the new Apple Macbook, the Apple TV, and the new Apple watch. What I loved about the meeting was that there was an opportunity for business owners to share their need for employees/talent, and for others to share their need for employment and the skills/talent that they offer. On our way to the airport for our flight to AUSTIN, we drove to Estes Park and went to the Stanley Hotel where Dumb and Dumber and The Shining was filmed.
